Skillshare’s mission is to make learning accessible to everyone, everywhere. That’s why our classes are ongoing, so every student can learn on their own time and at their own pace. But we also know that sometimes a little more structure can go a long way in keeping students engaged and excited to do their class project, and that’s why we created Workshops.
A Workshop is a set period of time (usually 2-4 weeks) for students to complete a class and upload their class project. As a teacher, you can host a Workshop in any of your existing classes on Skillshare, whenever you’d like.
Workshops have been a huge hit with our student community. On average, they boost class projects by 80% and lead to a 15% more minutes watched. But don’t just take our word for it — check out Anne Ditmeyer’s two-week “resume redesign” session.
Anne revitalized her class, Redesign Your Resume: Making Professional Documents, which she published over a year ago. She turned her class and project into three achievable milestones. To keep students on track, she sent helpful reminders and words of encouragement. At the end of the Workshop, Anne saw a 77% increase in projects.
We asked Anne to share her thoughts on hosting a Workshop. Here’s what she said:
“I really enjoy the Skillshare Workshops because it gives students (and myself) a more structured and focused timeline to complete a task. Re-doing a résumé is something that often gets pushed back on the to-do list, but the benefit of a Workshop is that it’s motivating to be working on something at the same pace as others. Additionally, it means the online classroom is more active, and there are some great exchanges and feedback happening. There’s a great energy that’s inspiring for both the students, and the teacher.”
She loved hosting a Workshop so much that she’s decided to host another this month!
