Over the course of my academic career, I've studied concepts in physics, mechanical and chemical engineering, biology, chemistry... a thorough understanding of the field of thermodynamics is the only reason I could so easily hop disciplinary boundaries due to its unifying nature.

I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 2010 with a B.S. in physics and a B.S. in mechanical engineering, focusing my studies on a discipline called "statistical mechanics." According to Wikipedia (my favorite professor), "Statistical mechanics provides a framework for relating the microscopic properties of individual atoms and molecules to the macroscopic bulk properties of materials that can be observed in everyday life, therefore explaining thermodynamics as a result of the classical and quantum-mechanical description of statistics and mechanics at the microscopic level."

I went to graduate school at Caltech to obtain my Masters in chemical engineering, again focusing on statistical mechanics with an emphasis on its application to the mechanics of fluids. Before leaving for Vegas to pursue Ayloo, I spent several months further studying fluid mechanics in Paris on a grant from Ecole Polytechnique.
