1) Case Study: It's All About the Fit. Examining the Style of the Film Crazy Stupid Love

I think this is a great introduction to the class. I put together this case study based on the film Crazy Stupid Love. I know, I know - most of you are probably either sighing, rolling your eyes, and/or wondering what you've signed up for. But trust me, it all comes together, and I think it does a great job of introducing the most crucial element to dressing well - the fit.

2) Pinterest Boards

I've put together several Pinterest boards just for this class. I'll be updating them throughout the class, and more importantly - even after the class. So this will be a continuously updated resource.

3) Put This On - "The T-Shirt Outfit"

A well-written blog post on a simplistic outfit based around a t-shirt, and how that particular blogger likes to style an outfit around it.

Some great advice on finding a tailor. That said, if you'd personally like some help in finding one, feel free to get in touch and I can definitely take some time to help you find one in your area!

5) Mr. Porter - "The Way I Dress with Sean Avery"

There are a few themes from this class that Sean embodies well in the way he dresses in this clip:
- His outfit is casual, and definitely appropriate for fall
- He incorporates sneakers really well into the outfit (black sneakers will always serve one well)
- He layers in order to make the outfit really work - he throws on a light well-fitting zip-up hoodie over his t-shirt, and then throws proper jacket to keep warm over that (pay attention to the fit of that as well)
- He focuses on fit and on simple colors/garments
6) Mr. Porter - "The Way I Dress with Joshua Kissi"

For those who enjoyed the previous video with Sean: At the other end of the spectrum is a great example of taking some of the fundamentals that we focus on in this class, and that Sean went over in the previous video (focusing on the fit, the basics, etc.), and then applying one's own style to them:
- The printed nature of his shirt, the jacket, and the fact that he likes rolling up his trouser leg to show a little ankle are all ways that he applies his own personal style to his casual outfit.
- That said, he still adheres to the principles of fit, he doesn't overdo it in applying his style touches (he still wears simple monotone trousers, and even the jacket is relatively simple in terms of color and style)
- He elevates the casual nature of his outfit with some pretty rad shoes (this particular style is a double monk-strap cap-toe, referring to the double straps in place of laces, and the line of cap-shaped holes that go over each set of toes)
What I want to convey by sharing this video is that once one has the basic building blocks of menswear down, they can start playing around with it to develop their own unique style (which includes playing around with the "rules" a bit). And also that non-casual shoes can really elevate a more casual outfit.

7) Effortless Gent: The Break - How to Choose the Best Pants Length + How to Tell Your Tailor

This is a great resource to better illustrate breaks. With trousers, I'd generally recommend the "enough break" option for most guys, though I prefer the "no break" option. When first getting a pair of denim hemmed, however, I'd go with either the "too much break" illustration, or somewhere in-between the "too much break" and the "enough break" illustrations.

From there, if you end up with too much of a break, you can either cuff up your denim just a tad, or have your tailor hem it a bit shorter (nearly all decent tailors will do a follow-up alteration free of charge).

(I recommend that route because of the nature of denim - it just falls differently, and not having any break rarely looks good).
Will be unlocked at the end of Week 1, and will mainly feature resources to help you post-class (shopping sources, sources for further information, etc.)
