How to Move a WordPress Site Manually
1. Back up old site files.
2. Back up old database.
3. Move old site files into archive folder (either locally or remotely).
4. Move the Wordpress files into the new site directory via FTP.
5. Export the the database to be moved and import it into its new location.
6. Through a SQL client (e.g., phpMyAdmin through cPanel), change "siteurl" and "home" in the database table "wp_options" to reflect the new location.
7. Re-save the Settings > Permalinks page (if the site uses permalinks).
8. Through a SQL client, you'll need to update hard-coded paths for the new site location. Below are the queries. (In phpMyAdmin, enter under the SQL tab and run one at a time--be sure to replace http://www.oldsiteurl.com and http://www.newsiteurl.com with you actual old and new domain names).
- UPDATE wp_posts SET post_content = REPLACE (post_content, 'http://www.oldsiteurl.com', 'http://www.newsiteurl.com');
- UPDATE wp_posts SET guid = REPLACE (guid, 'http://www.oldsiteurl.com', 'http://www.newsiteurl.com');
- UPDATE wp_postmeta SET meta_value = REPLACE (meta_value, 'http://www.oldsiteurl.com', 'http://www.newsiteurl.com');
