Lesson 1: Screen Captures, File Exports, Databending

Dozens of Glitches!
Share your favorite results from your databending experiments. If you get bored with the JPG databending, try bending the TIFF. Bored still? Use GIMP to export the files as different formats with different compression settings. Try databending a PNG, PCX, BMP, GIF. GO GO GO SHARE SHARE SHARE!

Lesson 3: Databending with Audacity

Audacity Databent Files
Try out a range of different audio effects on a TIFF file, ANY TIFF file of your choosing or making. Share your faves with the class for feedback. Also, keep track of which effects and settings you used. Sometimes it's helpful to take screenshots and catalog them with your images.

Lesson 4: Datamashups!

Datamash some images.
Get creative here! Any image can be exported as a TIFF. This effect works best when both files are exactly the same dimensions and uncompressed. Try making some gradients in GIMP and mixing them with other images you have access to. Grab things from the internet and convert them to TIFF and experiment there. Be sure to write down your sources and any recipes you come up with.

Lesson 5: Editing Sound as Image

Busted Audio
Try a couple of different file formats and compression settings. AIFF is uncompressed audio so copying and pasting data will produce stuttering and echoing effects, while MP3s and other compressed formats will have more interesting and drastic audio artifacts. If you're really into it, make a song using only glitched audio and raw file sounds (remember that you can use Audacity to extract sound from raw data!).

Bonus Lesson: Raw Data Imaging

Raw Data = Raw Material
Post some of your favorite raw data renders along with the settings and source files. You can also use these images in GIFs or as source material for further glitching. Share your best bits!
