Web Programming for the Rest of Us

By

Is it easy to build a website? Is it for me?

'Easy' is a thing of the past. Today building a website is a piece of cake. Everyone can do it, and everyone should do it. Regardless of your major or profession, web is everywhere and a basic grasp of how things get put together is indispensable. Whether you want to be a programmer, or simply need to learn how to communicate better with your technical team and friends, this class is for you!

So what will you learn?

I will live-code a sample project, and as I go explain the following concepts:

  1. What is HTML?
  2. How to think in terms of HTML?
  3. How to use HTML and do everything you need without much knowledge?
  4. What is CSS?
  5. Using CSS, CSS hacks, techniques
  6. Why isn't HTML, CSS enough. What is Javascript?
  7. Javascript example

Lukasz Dmowski

I'm a computer science student at Northeastern University, a freelancer, a start-up junkie, but most relevant to this course, last year I was the co-director and teacher for one of the most popular Northeastern after-school programs- iMadeIT- a program that teaches students how to get started with web programming.

By teaching this class, I reinforced myself in the belief that with good instructions, anyone can master the basics of web development and take advantage of this immensely useful skill.
