In this class, I will fill your tool kit with basic social media and digital marketing techniques and technologies so that you can be empowered. This course will focus on different intersections of technology and higher education by examining what’s going on right now on college campuses across the country and around the globe. I will touch on subjects like apps, social media and tech tools for the classroom. I will provide the classroom with best practices and learning materials that you can bring back to their institutions.

Whether you are a higher education professional, a faculty member, an adjunct or a student leader, this course is designed to empower you so that you can understand changing technology and trends in order to find what tools can enhance your professional and academic life.

By the end of this class you will have learned the basics of social media within the landscape of higher education along with some new tools and tricks that will set you apart from your peers.

    The workshop will be a mix of lecture and discussions. Students will be asked to look for “signals” about trends in technology and social media that either could be applied to higher education or exist in the industry. Each class member expected to present (3 mins) and share a tool or trend with the group.

Amanda Alampi

Social Media Strategist, Sunshine Sachs

Amanda Alampi is currently a social media strategist for nonprofit and cause-related clients at Sunshine Sachs, a public relations firm located in New York and Los Angeles. She is also a masters candidate at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University where she is specializing in International Policy and Management. She previously served as NYU Wagner’s social media manager. Back in 2011, she graduated from NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Institute of Journalism with her bachelors in print/web journalism.

Amanda previously worked as a social media consultant and as a freelance journalist. Her beat was technology and education. She has consulted for the United Nations Development Programme and continues to consult for small businesses, nonprofits and higher educational professionals. Her work has been featured in the Guardian and the Atlantic. She is a strong believer in peace, love and Antiques Roadshow.
