Who is this for?

This is for absolute beginners. You may have no programming background or may be familiar with some programming or markup(HTML etc.).  This is the 3rd class, there will be more. So, join us, judge us and give feedback.

What You Will Learn:

  • Intro to Programming ( looping, branching, variables, types, data structures)
  • File Manipulation ( reading and writing csv and text files)
  • Simple Program ( that uses basic programming arithmetic )
Don't understand what's it about just hit Enroll, you won't regret it.

Why should I learn to Program?

Really? Do you really want to know?
Every device around you can be programmed and has been programmed to make it useful. Just imagine the power in your hands if you start to program those devices and bend them to your will.

Why Ruby?
  • Ruby is Fun.
  • Simple yet Powerful ( write less code that does more, take advantage of packages and gems).
  • Ruby is Fundamental to Rails( a really good web framework).
I started out with Ruby as I use it everyday. Also, I believe that many students would want to learn web development with Ruby on Rails.

Why you should take this class?

Many students don't have a good experience when starting out to learn programming. This needs to change. This is my attempt to make it really simple for students to understand that programming is easy and anyone can learn it. This is the first class on Ruby. A plan to offer a course based on this class is in works. If you like the class you may decide to take the course and become familiar with Ruby Programming.
Prerequisites
Will to learn. A computer to program in ruby. Ask any question you have. Nothing is trivial in a beginner class. It would be great if you can install ruby before class. Otherwise you may want to arrive at 6pm and we will help you install it.

    New York, NY

This session is optional. Students with additional questions can come to office hours to better understand how to think like a programmer.

Some students may not want to meet in person for office hours. That's ok. You can schedule 15 to 30 minutes office hours over skype or a similar VOIP tool that supports screen sharing.

However, it is recommended that you come and meet me during office hours as you can benefit from questions/problems others students put forward.
