By ·Photographer, Dancer, Dessert Enthusiast.

Class Project

Shoot and share your best photos for feedback

Are you wanting to improve your digital photography but need knowledge of the basics? Do you read your camera manual, but still feel like something is missing from your photos? This class is  for you! No matter your photographic goals, this class will be the perfect foundation for any future photo endeavors.

What You'll Learn:

This class is designed to teach you basic photography principles so that you know how to utilize your camera more successfully and create all-around great images. We'll cover topics such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO, basic framing and composition, and some basic post-production will be covered as well. I'll be teaching you how to photograph a person in some key lighting situations, and as a final project, we'll put it all together to create your very own set of photos illustrating what you've learned.

How It'll Work:

This class will be part lecture, part hands-on learning. I'll be giving you projects to complete during class so you can practice your new skills in real-time. I'll provide plenty of resources to guide you through your projects, and I'll be hosting three live Office Hours to answer any questions you have and review my favorite projects from the class. By the time the class is over, you'll have the beginnings of your first photo portfolio in hand.

Make sure you have a DSLR or a digital camera on hand with manual controls (check your camera manual if you can adjust ISO, aperture, shutter speed, etc).

Looking forward to seeing you in class!

Ashley Batz

Photographer, Dancer, Dessert Enthusiast.

Ashley started practicing photography when she was 14 years old, taking black and white photography classes in high school. She liked it so much that she started as an intern at a local photography studio, assisting at weddings and portrait shoots. Since then, she's become a lifestyle and wedding photographer in the Bay Area. She's had the pleasure of photographing on the runway at New York Fashion week, taking portraits of Susan Gregg Koger (Owner and Creative Officer of ModCloth) and actress Sara Paxton.
