You have to treat dance like a foreign language. You can't expect yourself to be fluent after your first lesson, but if you break down the vocabulary, learn a few words and how to put them together to make a phrase, you'll create a foundation which you can continue to build on at your own pace. After a head to toe warm-up, this skillshare will break down various elements of dance and hip-hop to make them more digestible, putting them together with a powerful soundtrack, sweaty movement, and positive vibes.
Freestyle Dance for Beginners is featured in the Skillshare Commercial "Learn Differently."
Starring in "Girl Walk // All Day", a film that has made TimeOut New York, Critereon, and The San Francisco Film Critic's list of Best Films of 2012, gave me the opportunity to spend half of 2011 playing with freestyle dance through the boroughs of NYC as "The Creep."
I have performed solo creations at Brooklyn Masonic Temple, Brooklyn Museum and the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.
I began formal dance training upon moving to New York in 2006, studying hip-hop foundation with Robin Dunn, Jazzy J, Levi Claiborne, "Snap Pop & Rock," Millz and Mr. Wiggles. I am a constant student and enjoy the process of learning - that is what makes me a strong teacher. I relate to the feeling of being a beginner and believe I will always be a beginner when it comes to hip-hop technique as there is so much to learn. Ask me more about my fabulous teachers in my workshop!
