Community Building 101

, Team & Community Builder

Taught by Skillshare Community Manager, Danya Cheskis-Gold, this class will cover the basics of building a kick-ass community that's even more supportive than your parents.

Whether you’re the owner of a small business, the facilitator of an online forum, a member of a book club, or an activist, the people who believe in & join your efforts are your most valuable asset! Once you’ve got a meaningful product or mission, you can build a community of active & evangelizing participants. A thriving community will help you to get the word out about what you’re doing and to develop your efforts around the needs of the people you’re serving. Ultimately, your community will take on a life of its own and ensure the sustainability of your product or mission.

This class will cover the basics principles of community building in any context, and you’ll walk away with the tools you need to identify your community, make it meaningful, engage others in your community, and maintain a growing group of active members.

After a brief presentation and a Q&A session, you’ll have the chance to build community with your classmates (how meta!) by sharing ideas, problem-solving, and strategizing using the principles & advice you received in class (as well as the incredibly valuable knowledge each of you brings to the table!).

Danya Cheskis-Gold

Team & Community Builder

Danya Cheskis-Gold is a community builder, networker, recruiter, & all-around scrappy go-getter. For 4 years, she worked towards changing the face of education as a member of Teach For America’s recruitment team. She sought out, built relationships with, and convinced hundreds of teachers and staff members to join the movement to end educational inequity.

She fell in love with the mission of American Jewish World Service, a global grantmaking org that empowers local leaders in their own communities, attended every event they had & is now a member of its Steering Committee. Danya made her own crafty transition from the non-profit world to the tech sector by using her strong networking & relationship-building skills, and...voila! Danya is now the Skillshare Community Manager (read: Most Enthusiastic Evangelist, Queen of Questions & Answers, Biggest Teacher Advocate, Lover of Learning).
