This course will take you through excellent hand-picked party tracks from the 70s, 80s and 90s while teaching you some basic dance choreography and foundation hip-hop movement. Each workshop takes you though warm-ups, streching, easy to follow drills and concludes with a fun group routine. It is a physical work-out that will leave you sweating and burning calories but is specifically designed for beginners and open to students with no formal dance training.
If you cannot commit to both sessions within this course, you may sign up for a single workshop by searching under my other Skillshare Hip-Hop Dance For Beginners, however you will receive a discount by purchasing this 2-session course. While average class size is between 25-30, I will limit the number of discounted "course" spots available, so secure yours soon!
Sessions are not exchangable or transferable, but if you are unable to attend, you are allowed to send a guest in your spot.
Long before hip-hop music was defined by the mega stars we hear today, hip-hop dance was flourishing. Disco, Funk and R&B sounds were a common soundtrack to hip-hop movement. This class will feature the sounds of Chic, Chaka Khan, Kano and others.
There will be a 2 minute lecture on Soul Train and the significant role it played in the development of hip-hop dance styles.
MTV's The Grind left a lasting impression on my adolescent psyche... the music, the dancers, the clothes, the movement! This class will pay tribute the bouncing, bumping, winding, grinding celebration of awesomeness and 90s that was MTV's The Grind. And the music alone will make you sweat... Bizzare Inc feat. Angie Brown, Black Box, Haddaway and More!
As a life-long dance student, I understand the frustration one can feel when trying to follow along in any level of structured dance class. That shared experience is at the core of all of my classes, whether I am working with a group of 10 or 100.
In addition to teaching, I've choreographed routines for film, parades, commercials and my own group, "Harlem Dance Club." I've taught workshops at South X Southwest, Brooklyn Museum and St. Paul's Cathedral.
