Logo Design: Creating Custom Typography for Your Brand

, Graphic Designer

About the Class

The ability to create custom type is a popular and valued skill within our culture at the moment: a culture that, in the face of countless technological breakthroughs, relishes heritage and nostalgia. And it's something many businesses, both new and old, hope to tap into.

In this class, we'll cover what it takes to create your own type-based logo design. I'll show you some good practices and discuss how and when to break those rules.

What You'll Learn

  • Vectorizing Type. We'll cover some basic skills for taking your hand-drawn sketches and turning them into clean vector art.
  • Organizing Your Type and Logo. We'll start to organize layers of type and find out how to balance type-heavy logos.
  • Adding Texture. We'll finish up the logo by adding texture digitally to create a vintage feel.

What You'll Make

Students will create a vintage-style logo for a business using custom type and digital texturing techniques. This class is perfect for those getting started in logo design and are looking to experiment, and those that have a company or freelance project they are currently working on.
