Wireframing is the creation of a blueprint for a design project, be it graphic, web, or print. Photoshop and Illustrator have different ways to do the same thing. Some are much easier in one application than the other. I'll be teaching techniques on how to use both, so that you'll be what I call "multi-application lingual" when it comes to digitally sketching out design ideas.
Wireframing is essentially a "visual sketch" of what you plan to execute for the first draft. You can save yourself a lot of time and effort when you plan ahead using the wireframing technique. If you are creating a design project for someone, wireframing will allow you to show them what you had in mind. You could just draw up a digital sketch of a website mockup before spending hours coding to create the look.
Once your ideas, or your client ideas are "wireframed," you can use it as a springboard for coming to an agreement on the foundational design of the project. As more ideas come to the designer and client, it's simply a matter of drag and drop, fill colors, etc. before putting the hard work in - after design approval.
