Creative Suite Crash Course: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign

This is a 3 week course with 6 sessions, for anyone who wants to get started with Creative Suite. 

We'll cover the most efficient ways to perform common editing tasks, including noise reduction, shadow and highlight detail recovery, retouching, and combining multiple images. Core concepts and techniques that apply to any workflow in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Whether designing for print, the web, or assets for other applications, you'll learn the basic skills needed to get you started. This course includes a detailed explanation of the elements that make up vector and raster graphics.

Photoshop Topics include:

  • Opening files from Bridge
  • Application Frame/Bar
  • Documents and Navigation
  • Cropping, correcting perspective, and straightening images
  • Creating, naming, hiding, and deleting layers
  • How to make selections and masks quickly
  • Improving mask quality with Refine Edge
  • Techniques for combining multiple images
  • Non-destructive editing techniques with adjustment layers and Smart Filters
  • Retouching essentials, such as blemish removal and body sculpting
  • Color correcting images
  • Using the essential blend modes, layer effects, and styles

Illustrator Topics include:

  • Setting up a new document based on output
  • Using rules, guides, and grids
  • Making detailed selections
  • Creating compound vector shapes
  • Understanding the difference between point and area text
  • Applying live effects
  • Creating color swatches
  • Transforming artwork with Rotation, Scale, and Transform effects
  • Placing images
  • Working with masks

InDesign Topics include:

  • Navigating and customizing the workspace
  • Managing documents and pages
  • Rotating pages and spreads
  • Adjusting and mixing page sizes
  • Overriding master page items
  • Putting text on a path
  • Threading text frames
  • Applying strokes, fills, and other formatting effects
  • Nesting, grouping, and locking objects
  • Formatting: character-level and paragraph-level
Prerequisites
A laptop with CS5 or higher installed, [if you don't want to buy Creative Suite yet, you can download the trial version on the Adobe site for this course till you get familiar with it and decide to purchase it later. You can also use Creative Cloud. You can find info on that on the Adobe Site.] This course is for beginners with little to no experience designing or editing in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
