Designer toys have been described as one of the few truly original worldwide art movements of the last two decades. Initially created by street artists and designers using soft vinyl, the designer toy movement now encompass a wide variety of artists, styles, and materials, and has spread worldwide.
As the founder of Kidrobot, I helped bring designer toys to America. I have designed and art directed hundreds of limited edition toys — including virtually every toy created by Kidrobot from its inception through 2011. I am also well known as the co-creator of Dunny, Munnyworld, and many other iconic toys.

What You'll Learn
I'll be sharing my experience creating toys with Kidrobot, and helping you learn what makes a designer toy special, and how to design a successful one of your own. Class highlights include:
What You'll Make
In this online, project-based class, students will design their own toy. We'll walk you through the process from sketches to finished art, and you'll have the opportunity to post your designs for feedback from your fellow students.
Paul Budnitz is the founder of Kidrobot, the world's premiere creator of art toys, apparel and accessories. He also owns and runs Budnitz Bicycles, two technology companies, is the author of several books for adults and children, exhibits and a photographer and filmmaker, and speaks extensively on creativity worldwide. Budnitz has founded over a dozen companies.
Budnitz designed or art directed virtually every product created by Kidrobot from the company's inception through 2011. Budnitz's original designs include Dunny with Tristan Eaton, Munnyworld, the Kidrobot series, and many others.
In December 2008 over a dozen toys created by Budnitz & artist Tristan Eaton were accepted into the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Kidrobot has retail stores in New York City, London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, & Miami. Its wide range of products can be found in hundreds of stores worldwide.
In 2010 Budnitz launched Budnitz Bicycles, following his lifelong passion for urban bicycling. Budnitz Bicycles creates titanium bicycles that have been described by the media as media the fastest, lightest, and most beautiful city bicycles ever made. In 2012 Phaidon named Budnitz, "The man who made bicycles beautiful again.”
Paul Budnitz splits his time between New York City and Vermont and wears size 13 sneakers.
Classes revolve around completing a project and collaborating with fellow students to give and get feedback on your work. Use Video Lessons and the Project Guide designed by your teacher to complete your class project.
Teachers design and present all class content, but Skillshare is community based around student-to-student interaction. You'll be surprised at what you learn from your classmates!
