Cupcake Decorating 101

Ever wish you could decorate your cupcakes like the pros? Cupcake Decorating 101 will teach you all the basic techniques needed to have your cupcakes steal the spotlight.

All students will receive a copy of several tried and true frosting recipes. You’ll learn how to fill and use pastry bags and couplers; make basic swirls; make drop flowers and roses; make a basket weave; properly tint your frosting; use brush striping effects; and which frostings/tips to use for different types of decorations.

Each student will receive 3 cupcakes to practice on during the class, which they can take home. Icing and food coloring will be provided. Each student will also get to keep the following equipment, included in the cost of the class:

  • disposable pastry bags
  • standard couplers
  • #1M pastry tip
  • #47 pastry tip
  • #125 pastry tip
  • small straight spatula

Be sure to bring an apron or wear something you don’t mind getting a little dirty.

Please note, this course will not cover fondant or gumpaste. Look for advanced classes covering those techniques in the future.

Class is being held at the Boy Scouts office at the intersection of 22nd and Winter Streets (tan building, looks like a museum). Free parking lot is available on 22nd St, next to building. Use side entrance to building, on 22nd st, up ramp.
