I got my start in DIY by transforming an old sewing magazine into the DIY fashion community BurdaStyle.com. With over 800,000 members participating, I saw firsthand how valuable it is to DIY alongside other passionate enthusiasts from all over the world. I went on to start Kollabora, a crafter and maker community, on a simple, exciting idea: we are what we make.
Makers on Kollabora.com share projects, instructions, techniques, supplies and tools they’ve used to create, and ask and answer questions. You can browse and discover original, fashion- and design-forward projects, currently in sewing, knitting, and jewelry making.

You’ll knit your own cowl - an fun beginner’s project that teaches you the techniques you’ll need to move on to ever more complex and beautiful creations.
You’ll collect and share images of upcoming trends to inspire your design and I’ll guide you through the techniques of casting on, knitting, purling and casting off as your create your cowl.

With a love for interaction and innovative technology, before starting Kollabora, Nora reinvented an old sewing magazine into the DIY fashion community BurdaStyle.com, with over 750,000 members now an icon in the sewing community.
Nora began her career at German power-publisher Hubert Burda Media and is part of the founding team of the DLD (Digital Life Design) conference.
She has been invited to share her experience at Picnic, FOO (Friends of O'Reilly Media), Parsons School of Design, Stream, the World Economic Forum Media Summit, NY Forum, and NEXT Berlin.

Nora grew up in Germany, lives in Brooklyn, NY and holds a degree in Middle East Studies, Political Science, and Philosophy from the American University in Cairo.
