This workshop series is designed to introduce students to the materials, tools and techniques of contemporary metal craft as it pertains to jewelry and small scale sculpture. In this course students can expect to make a simple pendant, ring, belt buckle, bangle bracelet or pair of earrings. Most likely, you'll also leave with several samples from practicing techniques.
On the first day students will learn how to cut, file, sand and prepare sheet metal to assemble a basic piece. On the second day students will learn how to solder using our oxy-acetylene torch. In week three we will cover a specific skill for advanced metalsmithing, as voted on by the class, so students who would like to attend the workshop more than once will learn something new each time. These skills may include stone setting, enameling, patination, chain making, chasing and repoussee or plastics.
This workshop is easy-going, fun and will expose you to the contemporary side of age-old metalsmithing traditions. This class is perfect for first timers, or anyone who would like to learn more advanced, technical processes for working with sheet metal.Visit out website for more information: http://www.3rdward.com/3rdwardclasses/intro-to-jewelry-silversmithing.html
