Beginning Bookmaking

By ·Photographer, & Lecturer @ Texas State University

In this session, you will learn to create a simple hand-made book (click here for examples). We will work with the simplest of all techniques, the saddle stitch, and also learn a slightly more advanced (and more hands on!) technique using the pamphlet stitch and waxed linen thread for a binding.

All materials will be provided, and are included in the price of the class! You will leave with your own, handmade book, and a new set of skills to make your own books and zines at home.

Photographer, & Lecturer @ Texas State University

I'm a working artist, with a focus on photography, bookmaking and serial imagery, and new media practices. I love making books, and have been working with students in my college classes since 2009 to create interesting hand made and print on demand books. I have been teaching art at a variety of grade levels since 2004: from 1st grade through college and continuing education, in formal classroom settings as well as camps and workshops. I am currently developing a series of class for Oil and Cotton, an arts education collective in Dallas, as well! You can see my work and CV at laurabarthturner.com.
