This class is for folks that want to find work that has meaning...and still be able to pay off their student loans.

Over the last few years, there has been an explosion of opportunities in a number of exciting fields - Social Entrepreneurship, Impact Investing, Micro-finance, Education Reform - that offer the chance to create positive change and make a decent living...delivering the promise of both doing well, and doing good.  

 This class will:

  • Unpack the often nebulous term 'Social Innovation'
  • Offer an overview of some of the leading players and activities working in the social innovation space. 
  • Help folks who want to find a job in this space understand where to look for opportunities,  and offer insights into how to take advantage of them.

If you are a mid-career professional looking to transition, a college student trying to find your path, or simply someone interested in some of the extraordinary and innovative work being done to try to make our world a better place, this class is for you.

Lyel Resner

Co-Founder at Startup Box South Bronx

Lyel has an unusual breadth of cross-sector expertise in Social Innovation - from social enterpreneurship, to impact investing, to education reform. He has contracted with dozens of mission-driven organizations, including The Rockefeller Foundation, Kiva, and The New York Hall of Science. His passion is in rethinking how we look for, measure, and cultivate potential in kids and underserved communities everywhere.

 Lyel is presently the Co-founder of Startup Box South Bronx - a unique non-profit campus offering K-12 and community education in tech, design, and entrepreneurship. He is also the youngest faculty member at the New York University Stern School of Business, where he teaches a course on Social innovation and Impact.  He also sits on the Advisory Boards of The Centre for Social Innovation and the Bronx Academy of Software Engineering.

 Lyel received his Masters from NYU in Business, Media & Technology, and Education as a Reynolds Fellow in Social Entrepreneurship, and holds degrees in Physics and Political Science from MIT where he was a Burchard Scholar.   

He enjoys surfing, guava soda, and air-drumming on the subway.
