What You’ll Learn

You CAN make shoes?! Yes! You can! Of your own designs too.

Tape up lasts of your own size, transfer designs on the last, and make a pattern for your sole and for your upper. This is the analog way to make patterns. Prep yourself to be hands-on! You will go home with a pattern for your own shoes.

For first time shoe makers, please take the shoe making 001 class to get a generic intro + material list, resource list, and a designing session to get all your ideas ready for creation in this class.

Please bring a "last" of your own size. You can purchase them at Kaufman's Shoe Supplies in NYC. Please contact kstarshoes@gmail.com to see if we have your size if you cannot find your size last at Kaufman's.

For materials to bring with you, please refer to the check-list from class 001!

I hope to see you soon!

ps: please note that I will meet you at the door of the building 5 minutes before class starts. Or, if you are early or late, you will need to call 646.338.8671 or 718.218.7111  to be buzzed in. As it is a small class, it will be beneficial for everyone to come on time- Thanks for understanding.

Beginner Level

Please take the shoe making 001 class. Please have your material list and procedures and bring what is necessary for this pattern making class.

About Your Teacher
Keiko H · designer/shoe maker @ kstar shoes

I learned shoe making through Emily Putterman who still teaches at many design schools, like Parsons/New School, Pratt, JCC. She used to teach at FIT when I took her courses. She is "The Shoe Making Teacher" of New York. (Now there are several more...) I followed her around town with her classes. She taught in a way you can make shoes at home. So I kept on making at home. I soon wanted a "shoe circle" like a knitting circle, and started offering shoe making workshops in Brooklyn. Since then, the circle of shoe makers has been growing, and number of machines in my posession has grown also. After working with and producing shoes in China, came to a realization of the first love of "making" shoes. Now I work out of my studio, and make shoes every day. Keep it local! kstar shoes
