What You’ll Learn

We're big fans of Zappos and the culture they've created around delivering happiness to both their customers and their own team. They've taken the fairly dry process of buying shoes online and turned it into something surprisingly enjoyable and painless. We'd argue that, at the heart of any successful company, is a community manager whose efforts are essential to the growth and maturation of both the company's product and culture.

Pre-Class Warm Up:

  • Collective brainstorm on the essential skills and tools needed to build, grow, and nurture a community. Including, but not limited to:
  • Ways to surprising and delight each user
  • Creating a customer-driven development process

Post-class Takeaways:

  • Leave loaded up with resources and fresh methods for cultivating and managing your community, whatever your business is

Class Format: Study Session: focused on student-led collaboration, not lecture-style teaching. I will act as a facilitator and will come prepared with tips and helpful examples, but you should come prepared to speak your mind and to provide others with feedback!

Danya Cheskis-Gold is a community builder, networker, recruiter, & all-around scrappy go-getter. For 4 years, she worked towards changing the face of education as a member of Teach For America’s recruitment team. She sought out, built relationships with, and convinced hundreds of teachers and staff members to join the movement to end educational inequity.

She fell in love with the mission of American Jewish World Service, a global grantmaking org that empowers local leaders in their own communities, attended every event they had & is now a member of its Steering Committee. Danya made her own crafty transition from the non-profit world to the tech sector by using her strong networking & relationship-building skills, and...voila! Danya is now the Skillshare Community Manager (read: Most Enthusiastic Evangelist, Queen of Questions & Answers, Biggest Teacher Advocate, Lover of Learning).
