Startup Marketing: If You Had $1 To Spend How Would You Spend It?

What You’ll Do
Project: Implement a lean marketing strategy for your own business.
What You’ll Learn

As Head of Marketing at TaskRabbit, I've helped build and scale a marketing strategy on a very limited budget. To do so, I've applied many of Eric Ries' lean start-up principles - which are typically associated with product development - to the marketing organization.

In this class, you'll learn how to adapt lean start-up strategies to build and implement a marketing strategy for your own business. You will walk away with a lean marketing strategy and some key tactics for your own business or brand.

You’ll get there by focusing on some marketing essentials, including:

  • How to define and build a memorable brand;
  • How to define your core customer segments;
  • How to efficiently and effectively target them;
  • How to determine the most appropriate marketing channel(s) for your business;
  • How to maximize the potential of these channels; and
  • How to measure the impact of each of these channels

You'll also spend some time looking at specific marketing tactics and channels as well as the key things to consider and common pitfalls. Importantly, you'll learn how to test marketing tactics and iterate quickly to determine the most appropriate and effective marketing channels to focus on and invest in - the premise of Ries' lean tactics.
