What You’ll Learn

In just two studio sessions, you will complete your own set of stacking ring bands. The first session is a wax working class, where you will carve and sculpt your designs for a few stacking metal rings. Wax is a forgiving material that can be shaped fairly quickly, and making multiple rings will let you experiment with different shapes, patterns, and textures. We will have your rings cast into the metal of your choice for the second class, and you will do some metal working to clean up and finish the surface of your creations.

The course fee includes all materials except the cost of casting which will be on a ring-by-ring basis. We will collect a 50% deposit for casting at the end of the first session, so please bring your checkbook. You will leave the second class with your finished set of stacking rings!

Class is taught by Melissa J Tyson and Kerrie Yeung in their jewelry studio.

About Your Teacher
Melissa J Tyson · Co-founder/ Instructor

Melissa J Tyson likes to figure out exactly how things work, which leads her to investigate the chemistry, history, and possibilities of different materials. She’s excited to share this in-depth knowledge with The Bloomfield School community. When making jewelry, Melissa’s process tends towards the loud and messy, with more than one piece coming to life at all times. When not making jewelry, she works on personal projects ranging from the very-public to the semi-covert, some of which you could take part in – just ask. Melissa studied Jewelry and Metalsmithing, and as many other things as possible, at the Rhode Island School of Design. She also spent some time in Germany at the Pforzheim University School of Design.
