”There once was a man named Devon who was deeply in love with Photoshop. They did everything together, and even though they fought often, he didn’t know any better... until one day, Illustrator came along. Before he knew it, Devon was lost in a love affair with Illustrator. He never knew how he lived without her, and so he decided to teach a Skillshare Class Series to tell the world of her beauty. And they lived happily ever after.”
Maybe you use Photoshop because you needed a quick edit for something and it was the first solution that came to mind. Maybe you’ve heard things like, “It’s the industry standard” or “Yeah, I’ll just Photoshop that right quick.” Then again, maybe you use Photoshop because you always have, and “it gets the job done, so why not... right?” Whatever the reason, there’s a not-so-new kid on the block that does a lot of things far better than Photoshop. Her name? Illustrator.
There’s a reason why Adobe put so much work into making two similar-looking drawing applications: they are meant for subtle yet significantly different things. In this class I will teach you the basics of when and how to leverage the power of Adobe Illustrator. Best of all, if you know Photoshop already, this will be a breeze. If you aren’t familiar with either, fear not! No experience is necessary, and you’ll be up and running in no time!
Please bring a laptop equipped with an installation of Adobe Illustrator. (Trial version is free and can be found here.)
Different people have different tastes. For me, Illustrator is my Assault Rifle of sorts, leaving Photoshop as my sidearm. For others it is the opposite. This class doesn't aim to indoctrinate, but simply to point out the usefulness of Illustrator. I'll leave it to you to decide what role it takes in your creative process!
