GOALS
  1. Learn how to develop a social media profile that is consistent with your brand across different platforms (e.g. Facebook Page, Twitter profile, Google+).
  2. Learn techniques to easily incorporate social media components into your website.
  3. Using minimal coding, learn how to optimize your site for rich content experiences on third party sites such as Facebook and Google (some SEO aspects).
DESCRIPTION

Ever wonder how to choose what shows up under your website in Google search results? How Facebook chooses images or embeds videos when people share a link? And what about combining the Facebook likes from your Facebook page AND website? Want to include a follow button or your Twitter stream? +1??

Take a deep breath, relax, and come learn easy methods to social mediafy your website, business, or brand. From creating and seeding your twitter, facebook, and google+ pages, to getting custom well-branded urls, to embedding widgets on your site to drive traffic, and even to some easy lightweight search-engine optimizing, we will cover it all in an easy-to-understand not-too-technical walkthrough. You'll come away not only knowing how to do these things, but you will have actually done them in class! There will also be resources for you to take afterwards for continued learning.

We won't be doing hot yoga, but after this class you'll be less stressed than all of your yoga-master coworkers, because this time you'll be the one bringing home the bacon.

PREPARATION

To participate fully and get in-class feedback, you should bring a laptop and have the basic ability to edit HTML files for your website (no coding experience required). If, however, you are unable to do so (for any number of reasons) you are welcome to only take notes, as you will benefit nearly as much by implementing the strategies on your own.
