Carla Liesching
Carla Liesching is one of our many talented instructors. Carla is a photographer and arts educator from Johannesburg, South Africa. Her interests include the impacts of globalization and the after-math of colonial struggles, seen not only in Africa but also on a global level. Her work seeks to explore new ways of realizing the self within this unstable space, as well as exploring the actual potentiality of these instabilities.
Carla received her BFA from Rhodes University, specializing in photography, video and sound installation. She has exhibited widely in SA and abroad - most recently Germany, England and Belgium. Her work has been shown in various international publications including Art Review, GUP Magazine, The Viewer and The New York Times. She has run workshops for the SA National Arts Festival, assistant lectured at Rhodes University and taught photography at the Market Photography Workshop. She has recently spent time working in Taipei, Taiwan and is currently based in New York City.
