What You’ll Learn

This class is for anyone who has an idea for a documentary -- but isn't sure what to do next.

I am going to talk you through it step by step. First, we're going to cover PITCHING: how to distill your idea into something you can present.

Then we're going to cover FINANCING your documentary. How are you going to find the money? I will share my experience reaching out to individuals and corporations. We will also touch briefly on crowdfunding and grant writing.

Finally, we will talk about STARTING. Should you just start? How? What to do? What principles apply?

Let's get that documentary going -- together.

About Your Teacher
David Sauvage is an award-winning documentary director and hardscrabble producer. He has raised money from corporations and high net worth individuals to make documentaries. He has produced several projects from scratch: everything from carrying the tripod to negotiating television agreements. He recently completed “Soundcheck,” a film about the new band of music legend Bill Laswell. His previous film, "Carissa," was Executive Produced by Davis Guggenheim, director of "An Inconvenient Truth" and sponsored by Virgin Mobile. After winning multiple jury prizes, It was licensed to Current TV. David has a BA from Columbia University and an MBA -- yes, a master's in business -- from UCLA.
