What You’ll Learn

You’ve been living and breathing your idea 24/7. You can talk about it for hours, but when you score that investor meeting, what information is a must to cover? In this class, we'll discuss how to succinctly and comprehensively address the questions on the investors' minds, from market sizing to financials. We'll also discuss the components of an elevator pitch and executive summary, often precursors to getting those investor meetings. I expect the class to be highly interactive, and feel free to bring drafts of your pitches or your elevator pitch. I'll also invite entrepreneurs who have raised capital to share their successful pitches.

Note: All proceeds will be donated to Raise Cache, a benefit fashion show on November 17th to celebrate NY tech and raise $100,000 for HackNY. Help celebrate NYC as the epicenter of Tech, fashion, art, culture and music while fostering the next generation of innovators.

About Your Teacher
Jalak Jobanputra has been a venture capitalist since 1999 and has seen hundreds of startup pitches in her career, and has invested in 35 companies across a range of sectors, including consumer Internet, ecommerce, mobile apps and infrastructure, recommendation engines, edutech, fintech, speech recognition and enterprise software (9 acquisitions and 2 IPOs, many more TBD). She has been with Intel Capital and Omidyar Network in Silicon Valley; and New Venture Partners and the NYC Investment Fund in NYC. While at NYCIF, she spearheaded the formation of NYCSeed in 2008 and sat on its selection and investment committees. She is a mentor for Techstars, ERA, and Seedstart, and a frequent speaker and judge at VC/startup conferences throughout the world. She sits on the Astia NYC Advisory Board and Echoing Green Executive Council, is a Board Director for Center for an Urban Future and an advisor to the Obama administration on entrepreneurship. Prior to her VC career, she launched an online startup in NYC in 1997 and was an M&A banker for media, telecom and tech companies in NYC and London.
