Through technical tutorials, group shoots on location in New York City, individual assignments and constructive critiques, students in this course will learn how to express themselves artistically through the medium of photography.
This is a great class to take if you have an interest in photography and want to take your pictures to the next level. The focus of the class will be on discovering what you want to say with your photographs while also improving your technique. Assignments will be designed to ignite your creativity and reveal your personal vision. Each assignment will be critiqued by me and the other students in the class to determine what is working well in your images, and what areas could use some improvement.
I'm teaching this class because I am committed to helping people express themselves artistically. Being able to create art has made a huge difference in my life and I want to use the experience I have in the field of photography to support others in finding that same joy and satisfaction in their lives.
Requirements:
1. Students will need to provide their own cameras. A high quality camera phone, like an iPhone, will suffice, but I would recommend using a camera that has manual controls.
2. Student will need to present assignments as prints to be discussed at the critique sessions. Prints can be made at home with a photo printer or by sending the digital files or film to a lab or digital print provider. I can recommend printing services and help facilitate if needed.
3. Student must commit to attend at least 8 of the 11 sessions.
