Maybe you read Born to Run, the story of the Tarahumara Indians who effortlessly run hundreds of miles wearing huaraches--simple hand made sandals that put "modern" footwear to shame--and would like to see why minimalist footwear encourage in effortless movement.

Or maybe you are just tired of being at war with shoes that never quite fit.

In this two-day, hands on workshop you will make your very own, custom sandals, molded to fit your foot like nothing you've ever felt before. You will:

  • Learn the principles of effortless walking, from the ground up, allowing your feet naturally reorganize your stride.
  • Discover why heels of any sort are asking for trouble (and amongst other things may even contribute to schizophrenia!), and why shoe fashion always insists on constricting your toes.
  • Learn to source and choose your materials for the footwear that works for you. All materials will be provided for you.
  • Make your very own huaraches, and discover how to craft them so that they follow every contour of your foot. We will literally shape them around your foot in motion! (Mass produced shoes are built around "lasts," molds that bear only the roughest resemblance to an actual foot, never mind your own. Even bespoke shoes, costing thousands of dollars, don't get much closer. Your's will fit like a glove--if only gloves fit so well.
  • Learn how to test and modify your new huaraches until they are dialed in perfectly.
  • In addition to this first pair, you will learn everything you need to be able to make and customize your own footwear in the future, (using an iterative design strategy based on sensory feedback.)
