Lets Make a Website: HTML(5) and CSS(3) for Non-Geeks

Want to learn how to build Web sites fast? I'll give you a crash course to get you up and running with HTML5 and CSS3 in no time. I'll teach you absolute beginners the vocabulary to find and understand the information to need to get started making your own custom web pages by hand. Along the way you'll learn common pitfalls and quite a bit about how the internet really works.

This class is for you if:

You edit your company's website and find yourself confused by the HTML code
You are a complete beginner looking to create your own website and are unsure of where to get started
You want to be able to communicate better with a web developer you are working with

This class may not be for you if:

You have no interest at all in learning HTML and CSS and just want to put a website like a blog or business site online. You might want this course: "Getting a Website Online Without Coding Skills: A Beginners Guide"

We'll go through:

✔ The anatomy of a web page
✔ A basic web design workflow
✔ An introduction to HTML and its syntax
✔ An introduction to CSS and its syntax
✔ Laying out and styling a basic web page
✔ Common pitfalls when you're just starting out, and how to avoid them
✔ A little about securing a domain and publishing your website to the internet
✔ Resources for continued learning
✔ As much Q&A as you like
✔ (Maybe) A brief riff of JavaScript, what it is and what it isn't.

If you want to follow along, you'll need a computer with these (free) things installed:

Sublime Text 2 (http://www.sublimetext.com/2)
Google Chrome (http://www.google.com/chrome)

Prerequisites

I will assume you have absolutely no knowledge about how to make a website. I will also assume a fairly non-technical audience. This call IS for non-geeks, but you WILL be learning geek stuff, you've been warned.
