THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELED - PLEASE FOLLOW ME TO GET NOTIFIED WHEN FUTURE SESSIONS HAVE BEEN SET.
Classroom-tested, kid-approved! Book-making is a wonderful way to promote literacy and creativity...come learn how to make simple, low-mess books which kids love (e.g. ribbon-tied hard-covered accordions and books with wraparound covers), along with tips on how to teach your students to make them. Books can house poetry or writing activities, special projects or reports, sketches, class notes, journaling, timelines…the only limit is imagination. You will leave with an armload of books and ideas to make more.
Please note, this class is designed for teachers/librarians of grades 2 and up, but craftsy types who are simply interested in learning super-simple binding techniques will enjoy it as well!
Covered in part 1: folded books. Single sheet books / variations; 2-hole bindings; accordion books / variations; origami-folded books; turn-ins / covering boards.
REGISTER FOR PARTS ONE AND TWO AND GET A $20 DISCOUNT! I'll refund the $20 via PayPal.

I'm a book artist (making one-of-a-kind handmade books that I bind, write and illustrate) and art teacher, specializing in teaching kids (and grown-up kids) how to make books - I've been making books since I was little, and I love to share my enthusiasm for them! Although my specialty is book art, I am also an experienced museum and outreach educator for some of NYC's finest cultural institutions, and I have classroom teaching experience as a general art specialist - since getting my masters in art education from RISD in 1997, I've been fortunate to teach in many museums, public and private schools, art centers, and privately. You can check out examples of my work and read more about my teaching practice at my website, bookteacher.com.
