What You’ll Learn

Are you struggling to find a job you care about? Getting turned down and you don’t know why?

I founded NY Creative Interns and have spoken at conferences, colleges, and events across the country about erasing negativity from the phrase "it's all about who you know." Life is all about the people you meet and the things you create with them, but that's not a bad thing!

This class is designed for college students and recent grads who are looking for help finding their place (and a job, perhaps?) in the big city (or any city).

In this class we’ll cover ways to reach out to people, balancing your search with social activities, how to find the best events, and the art of hustle. You’ll leave class feeling confident and prepared to find and meet people who will help you in the next stage of your career. Plus, you’ll have fun!

During class we will:

  • Discuss how to stand out in the sea of applicants
  • Uncover the best way to get informational interviews (ie meet cool people you admire)
  • Learn why going out is as important as emailing resumes
  • and more!

This class will consist of one kick-off livestream - I'll spend about 60 minutes on the presentation, with the rest of the time for application of what you’ve learned and Q&A. You'll work on a series of tasks that will help you practice your networking skills, and we'll hop back on a final livestream for feedback and Q&A.

By the end of this class, you'll have built your first networking hitlist...but you won't stop there. You'll actually make connections, whether in person or online!

“Emily is a great teacher because she’s genuine and passionate about what she’s talking about.”

“I made a couple new friends/contacts! I was surprised how effective a virtual event could be.”

“I love NY Creative Interns events because they teach professional principles while being light-hearted and casual. Everything is easier when you feel like you’re in a comfortable and welcoming environment.”

“Emily has tons of first hand experience when it comes to networking and making connections. This class provided some GREAT advice on all sorts of things from how to meet new people, find cool events or how to write an efficient email. The best part was Emily had many personal anecdotes throughout the class that she would share. I would definitely recommend this class to a recent graduate, it really gets you in the mindset you need to start reaching out and get stuff done!”

About Your Teacher
Emily Miethner · Founder, President, NY Creative Interns

Emily has spoken about the power of social media and networking at numerous colleges, conferences, and events including Columbia University, New York University, SXSW Interactive, and Social Media Week. After graduating in May 2010 Emily interned at Gawker.TV and Flavorpill, landing her first full time gig in July at Sterling Publishing as the Social Media Marketing Coordinator. A year later she moved on to take on a new role at RecordSetter.com as the Community Manager.

Currently, Emily is focusing on building NY Creative Interns. Emily has met tons of incredibly inspiring people since her transition from college to the “real world” and aims to erase negativity from the phrase “it’s all about who you know.” After all, it is, but that isn’t a bad thing. Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them.
