Who is this class for?

This class is for writers who want to get their articles published in magazines. No professional writing experience required. This class is NOT for those seeking PR or entrepreneurship tips.

What is this class about?

Do you ever read features in magazines and think, "Hey, I could have written that!"? Well, you don't need to have connections with editors in order to get published. You don't even need an extensive writing portfolio. What you do need are critical thinking skills to develop innovative stories—and the discipline to research and write those articles.

For brand new writers, I'll give you the tools to land that first assignment. For more experienced writers, I'll teach you how to develop relationships with your editors so that you can get published again and again.

What will I learn?

Curious about writing for publication or landing better bylines? Sign up now, and discover:
  • how to come up with irresistible article ideas
  • how to get the attention of busy editors
  • how to target the right publication
  • how to craft the pitch

What happens in this class?

I'll give you an overview of the idea generation and pitching process, share my own pitches that worked, give you tips on how to deal with editors effectively. You'll walk away with insights on writing for publication and the skills to write killer pitches again and again.

What if I want to learn about humor writing or memoir writing instead?

Then sign up for my class Humor Writing: Become the Next David Sedaris (an online course on Wed, March 6th) or Get Paid to Write About Your Favorite Topic—Yourself (Tues, Mar 12th).

*Please note: There are no refunds or transfers for this limited-enrollment class.
Prerequisites
No publishing experience required. Optional: Bring a pitch to workshop in class, even if it's the first one you've ever written. We'll talk about how to make it more enticing to magazine editors.
