Writing about art can be intimidating, whether you're trying to examine an exhibition in a critical review or describe your own work in a personal artist's statement. This class will demystify the world of art writing and make completing reviews, articles, or statements approachable, easy, and as painless as possible — it might even be fun.

The class will work through the basic topics of article writing, including how to pitch stories to editors, create a compelling opening, and express your own critical opinion, as well as teach copy editing skills. For artists, the class will examine the elements of a good statement, how to describe your own work, and how to hold a reader's attention.

Students in the class will receive access to a private blog of art-writing materials and activities as well as personal online feedback on one piece of writing of their choice after the class ends.
