How to Interview Like a Journalist

About this Class

Anyone can have a conversation, but interviewing someone takes skill. It doesn't have to be intimidating and you don't have to be a journalist to chat like one.

Whether you're a scientist, criminal sleuth, student, or professional networking at a party, this class will arm you with the basic conversational tools to interview your first subject.

Learn:
- How to conduct an interview with confidence.
- How to approach different kinds of subjects.
- How to ask good questions.

This class is a beginner to intermediate workshop. Students will receive study materials and homework prior to class. Please come prepared.

Pauline’s Credentials

For the past six years, I've interviewed musicians, nightlife producers, politicians, celebrities, comedians, and filmmakers in a variety of settings - from noisy cafes to abandoned spaces to the Red Carpet.

I'm the editor of All That We've Met, a blog and weekly interview series on the Nonsense list. All That We've Met is a collection of candid conversations with underground personalities and people with interesting stories.

As a freelance journalist, I've also written arts and culture articles for publications like the Village Voice, New York's Daily Intel and New York Press.

Student Endorsements

“It was an awesome class by Pauline. She prepared food for us before the class and that really helped to break the ice and gotten everyone to bond better later on during the mock interview session. The context is really good and there are some good pointers given through her years of experience. ”
