This class will provide key tips and advice from a startup founder and VC analyst on how to best position yourself when looking to join a startup. Learn how to find awesome jobs, what startup employers are looking for, and strategies for improving your chances of getting hired from the very first email.
Class topics will include interview tips, online & offline resources for finding open positions, what employers look for in potential candidates, and most importantly: how to prove you can hustle every day to work at a fast-paced & demanding startup.
This class will begin with a short lecture, followed by Q&A from the audience.
The class will be co-taught with Eric Friedman, the Director of Business Development at Foursquare. Eric was formerly at Union Square Ventures, a venture capital firm focussed on early stage web services and technology companies. He also spent three years working at Reprise Media, a full service SEM, SEO, and social media agency startup that was acquired by IPG in 2007. Prior to that Eric spent time at Grey Advertising working at Mediacom and Beyond Interactive with clients within both divisions. Eric has combined his entrepreneurial interests and experience in product management, finance, marketing, and account management in his work. Eric has a BBA from George Washington University.
Christina Cacioppo is part of the investment team at Union Square Ventures, a New York City venture capital firm, where she splits her time between evaluating potential new investments and working with existing portfolio companies. Union Square Ventures focuses on investments in mobile and web-based networks and marketplaces. Previously, Christina conducted user research at Deutsche Telekom in Berlin, Germany. She's also spent time living and researching in Kigali, Rwanda, Kampala, Uganda, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Bangkok, Thailand. Christina graduated from Stanford University with a BA in Economics and an MS in Design. She is fluent in French, speaks some German and Kinyarwanda, and has studied Spanish and Swahili.
