Class will begin with a review of basic stitches: back stitch, couching and French knots, all of which are ideal for delineating text. Each student will then choose a sentence or two, or just a phrase, to embroider. This can include a wish, a secret, a tweet, a text message or a love note. The goal and focus will be to maximize the use of back stitch, couching, and French knots to get written messages across, paying particular attention to the size and shape of the letters, and the quality and weight of line/ stitch. Class will end with group discussion and sharing of each other's work and observations about process.
