Entrepreneurship for Designers - Make it doing what you love.

About this Class

Awesome news! The class will be joined by a fantastic attorney, Doug Barnes (Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher). Doug will decode how contracts work - a must attend section for any creative professional!

They teach safe sex in primary school but they don't teach safe business in MFA programs. Why is that? The goal of this class is to stop creative professionals from having uninformed, unprotected business.

Few things are as rewarding as making a living doing what you love. But ask any seasoned vet - it ain't always easy! Many designers have been forced to learn the fundamentals of business by groping in the dark with no playbook.

This class will introduce designers to key concepts to thinking entrepreneurially. It will cover essential skills for any designer/photographer/writer/freelancer interested in starting his/her own practice using real world lessons in cash flow, billing, negotiating and contracts. It will conclude with an overview of the state of the design landscape and new opportunities in NYC's current tech scene.

Note: Students will leave the class with a clear sense of how to start and grow a business - safely and responsibly. It's going to be fun, it's going to get real and it'll be more graphic than any novel you've illustrated.
