Interesed in developing your own film but don't have a dark room and don't want to deal with toxic chemicals? In this class I will demonstrate how to develop your own black and white negatives using caffenol, a mixture of instant coffe, washing soda, and vitamin c. Caffenol produces interesting and dramatic results. You can see some examples here on my Flickr account: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjw8xwUK

You will learn:

  • Spooling negatives onto a roll using a darkbag
  • Caffenol recipe proportions and times for various types of film
  • Using a developing tank to develop, wash, and fix film
Prerequisites
If you have a roll of 35mm film you have already exposed, you can bring it into class and we may try to develop it if we have time. ISO 50 film would be ideal.
