What You’ll Learn

Do you have a DIY project that you want to get fabricated? Take a tour of our Design/ Build Studio and learn how to make the most out of less. Come with ideas! Learn to find refurbished and recycled woods, fix broken pieces of furniture. We are design/build and we like to make things!

In this hands session you will:

Come with ideas so that we can help you find the best ways to create your project! If you have a  project for your apartment or if you need a planter box for your window, this class will give you the skills to accomplish your goal. 

This workshop is held at our woodshop so wear appropriate clothing. Also please bring a notebook and pencil. We will also be providing a resource book at the end of the class outlining the various topics we covered and also listing our favorite sources for local materials, supplies, tools and advice.

This workshop is a prerequisite to our Design-Build * Maker Workshop: Fabricate your ideas where we will guide and help you complete your own DIY project.

Beginner Level

No prerequisites are required. We will be starting from the beginning and going over the various tools, design methods, and ways to problems solve a design build DIY project.

About Your Teacher

Jon Schramm and Huy Bui run a design build studio *HB* Collaborative out of Brooklyn. Trained as architects, we work on variety of projects from small interior spaces, custom furniture and lighting and architectural design. We are hands-on in our apporach, making scaled models, to connection details, to full scale mock-ups or our designs.

Jon Schramm is a designer, artist and educator working in NYC. He is a faculty member at Parsons School of Constructed Environments. His illustration work – points and lines has exhibited throughout the city. He received his master in architecture from Parsons School of Design. 

Huy Bui is an entrepreneur, designer and artist working in NYC.  He is the co-founder of An Choi Vietnamese Eatery in the Lower East Side and is dedicated to the community of New York City. He received his Masters in Architecture from Parsons School of Design and Bachelors of Science in Finance from George Mason University.
