What You’ll Learn

DISQUS is the largest distributed social network on the web, capable of delivering interesting and unique value to individual commenters, professionals / publishers, as well as brands and organizations looking to build community and drive traffic.

We just launched our new platform (Disqus 2012), and continue to focus on deliver two amazing experiences -- user facing (video) and publisher facing (video).

This class will help develop a core understanding of the Disqus platform, including:

  • Highlight the differences between Disqus “Classic” and “Disqus 2012”
    • How to upgrade your site
  • How to optimize your use of Disqus for personal use, such as commenting functionality, sharing, voting, and social following
  • Configuring your account with social networks and notification preferences
  • How to set up your site with Disqus, including moderation and settings options
  • Best practices for building community and engaging with your audience
  • Ways to foster cross-pollination and discovery potential with like-minded people engaged both in your community and related sites

Depending on your goal(s) with this class, you’ll be a Disqus expert with the confidence to engage with any community on the web...  or at the very least walk away with a Disqus t-shirt.

PS, stay-tuned for materials and things to do prior to the class so that you're ready to engage!

About Your Teacher
Jon Hegranes · biz @disqus, board @pressinstitute

Having participated in and built online communities for myself, for non-profits, for my startups -- I'm now working at Disqus, the company that is at the forefront of online discussion and community.

I have a background in consulting, business development, social media, and internet startups.  I love this stuff and look forward to showing both sides of community - taking the class from the user-facing tools to the back-end and all the magic in-between.
