Course: Launching Your Startup Idea

Beginner Level5 Session Course

About this Course

Ever wonder how the founders of Foursquare, Kickstarter, or Behance got their startups off the ground? Come learn how to make your startup idea happen. We'll go over everything from picking your startup idea to seed fundraising.

This will be a four-week course meeting over the following topics on the date/times listed below. We'll have 2-hour (almost) weekly classes. And it'll cost $395 which is less than a desk at a co-working space!

Syllabus and Homework: The course syllabus will be sent out prior to the first class. Rather than lecturing during class, I will assign videos and articles to read prior to the class. We'll be spending our time in-class within an interactive workshop format. There will be required reading and homework assignments each week.

Recommended Reading: Some books that will be required to read include Lean Startups by Eric Ries and Mastering the VC Game by Jeffrey Bussgang. Both are available on Amazon.

Course Hours: 40. Please budget 10 hours per week to really learn the course material. There will also be office hours every week with me along with email access. This course is geared towards "doers" and not talkers.

Scholarship: I know this class isn't affordable for everyone so I'll be giving out a scholarship to attend this class for free. The first person that tweets @mikekarnj with a link of a Skillshare class they got onto Skillshare with over $1,000 in ticket sales will get a free scholarship to this class. In other words, you'll have to get a teacher onto Skillshare. This scholarship is only valid for new classes on Skillshare and not existing ones.

Michael’s Credentials

Michael Karnjanaprakorn is the CEO/co-founder of Skillshare, which is a community marketplace for offline classes. Michael is also a Venture Advisor for Collaborative Fund, which is a seed-stage fund that has invested in everything from Kickstarter to BankSimple. Previously, he led the product team at Hot Potato (acquired by Facebook) and developed products and services that organized the creative world at Behance.

Student Endorsements

“I recommend this class for anyone interested in culture and people management. The content is useful even if you're not working at a startup, although that's the target audience to whom the content is likely most applicable. The class is well-organized and offers helpful, tactical suggestions -- from how to implement concepts to recommendations for additional reading. Some of the insights were built on theories I've encountered previously, but hearing them through the lens of Michael's perspective, conviction and vision was worthwhile/inspiring. ”
