You've been learning to code and fancy yourself a budding developer. You've got the basics down but you're eager to jump in and build that web app you've always wanted to exist. But (there's always a but), you're stuck. Following? Activity streams? Authentication? Yikes! That's where I come in. I'll show you the ropes with a handful of common feature patterns, like building following, activity streams, login systems (Twitter sign in, too), tagging, likes, and more. Learn the building blocks from which almost every app is built. I'll be likely teaching in Ruby, using the Rails framework, but I'll try to avoid much of the magic that Rails provides so you'll actually understand what's going on behind the scenes. You should be comfortable with the basics: Ruby (or some other language like PHP or Python), SQL and relational databases (like Mysql or Postgres), and generally how an app is built (you know about HTTP, you've probably built something simple in Rails, Sinatra, Codeigniter, etc.)
