Learn the basics of business development and walk out of class having closed your first deal! After an awesomely fun workshop on the basics of biz dev, everyone will participate in a biz dev role-playing simulation to really deepen their understanding of how deals get done.

Topics include:

  • What Is Business Development: what it means when someone says "I do biz dev."
  • Strategies for Biz Dev: how to identify and validate business development opportunities.
  • Tactics at the Negotiating Table: how to "get to the D" and close the deal.
  • Biz Dev: The Game: apply your new skills in a live Biz Dev competition and try to close your first deal! The class will be split into teams to plan, negotiate, and sign a real-world partnership opportunity between our venue sponsorĀ and a prospective partner.

Scott Pollack has 12 years of experience in business development and startups. Scott currently works on Digital Partnerships & Development for American Express. Prior to American Express, Scott was responsible for a $30MM sales distribution partnership pipeline at Dow Chemical. On the startup side, Scott was the founder & CEO of Hot Pot Culinary Events (http://www.hotpotevents.com) , a social cooking experiences company based in NYC. Scott began his startup life as a Java developer, and rose from intern to CIO of UVentures (acquired by Innovaro) as a 19 year old college freshman.
