If you have never touched a machine or need to rekindle your old sewing machine flame then this is the class for you. Learn to use a sewing machine in this 3-hour introductory course. Designed for beginning sewers, we will learn to:

  1. Locate and use all the parts of the sewing machine
  2. Properly thread a sewing machine
  3. Adjust the tension, stitch length and stitch length
  4. Sew at different speeds using the pedal and presser foot
  5. Experiment with various machine stitches, basic tools and fabric terminology
  6. Try simple sewing techniques that will help you make your 1st apron, tote bag or other easy project
  7. Spot which fabrics will work best with our machine (woven vs. stretch, lightweight vs. heavyweight)
  8. Finish up with essential basic hand-sewing techniques
  9. See a few examples of great 1st projects, so we can get started with our new skills!

You will leave the class with a handy diagram of threading the machine, the parts of the machine and notes on everything we learned.

I recommend bringing your own machine if you have one (its best to get used to sewing on your own), and sewing machines will be available for those who don’t. Please let me know when you register whether you plan to bring your own. All other supplies are provided!
