This class will introduce the newbie artist to mixing colors, blending, and exploring the buttery texture of oil pastels. They are often referred to as the brand name, "Craypas", but the brand is irrelevant. Buy a non-toxic pack of oil pastels and get ready to have fun.

We will explore how darker colors make two-dimensional objects recede into the background and how lighter colors bring objects forward. NYC is such an inspirational subject, so we will use the basics of our new techinique to create a waterfront masterpiece.

If there is time, we will learn a bit about drawing perspective, line shape, and form. This will be integrated into the lesson. More advanced students will be allowed to explore the medium and draw a portait of their classmates instead.

Prerequisites
*Bring your own paper - like a heavy sketchpad or notebook. Paper must be strong enough to withstand the friction of blending colors by hand. This class will be MESSY, so wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. *Bring paper towels, baby wipes, and a paper clip if you like. *Buy and bring a pack of non-toxic oil pastels *Also bring drinking water, something to lean your paper/drawing on, bug spray, a hat, and whatever will keep you comfortable in an outdoor environment.
